Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Lucas Torreira from Arsenal on a season-long loan.
The midfielder has been cast into the shadows under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates after joining in 2018 from Sampdoria.
In the final minutes before the transfer window closed, the Gunners confirmed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico as Torreira departed the other way.

The Uruguayan made 89 appearances for the North London side, scoring four goals and claiming six assists.
On their club website, Arsenal said: ‘Everyone at Arsenal wishes Lucas well during his time with Atletico Madrid this season.’
Arteta ensured that Torreira’s absense will not leave a gap in midfield, as simultaneously the club announced the signing of Thomas Partey.

The Gunners met the £45million release clause in the Ghana international’s Atletico contract. He will wear the No 18 shirt.
Partey has been heavily linked with Arsenal throughout the transfer window and a deal has now come to fruition.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta told the club’s website: ‘We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy.’
