Atletico ‘ready to loan Joao Felix now’ with Man Utd and Arsenal battling it out

Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to loan out Joao Felix with Manchester United and Arsenal leading the chase to sign him.

The Portuguese forward has been attracting interest from Europe's elite in recent weeks ahead of the start of the January transfer window, which opened on Sunday. According to The Athletic, Atletico are now prepared to let him leave the club on a temporary basis this month, provided that their demands are met.

The report states that the Spanish giants are looking for a package totalling £18.6million, made up of a £13.3million fee and £5.3million in wages for the 23-year-old.

Although United and Arsenal are said to be the current frontrunners to sign Felix, both clubs are not currently willing to meet the finances Atletico are looking for.

Chelsea are also reportedly keen on a January move for the former Benfica man, meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have been linked in recent weeks too.

Felix still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at the Metropolitano Stadium, having signed for more than £110million in the summer of 2019.

He has so far scored five goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances this season as well as one goal and two assists for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar.

Despite their reported interest in him, Arsenal are understood to have doubts over signing Felix on loan this month. Mikel Arteta is instead prepared to cool his interest and pursue other targets moving forward.

Amongst those alternative targets is Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk. The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with the Gunners in recent weeks as talks between Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk continue.

United are likely to continue their interest in Felix, though, with Erik ten Hag keen to add another forward to his squad before the end of the window.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November has left the Red Devils short in attack, with other potential targets including Alvaro Morata and Marcus Thuram.
