Eric Bailly has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by hailing Sergio Ramos as "one of the best players in the history of football"
The Manchester United centre-half was asked for his take on "the greatest" debate.
Messi and Ronaldo have dominated world football for well over a decade, but the Ivorian is a fan of the Real Madrid centre-half.
Ramos is regularly included in Teams of the Year, but is yet to be awarded any major individual accolade.
That is despite him being a rock in the Los Blancos and Spain defence for well over ten years.
But it is that longevity and consistency which stands out for Bailly who has labelled him as the "reference point".
“My greatest inspiration has always been Ramos," he said when quizzed on who he thought the greatest player was on Guillem Balague’s YouTube channel
“I've admired him for a long time, because of what he does in football and how he keeps going at a high level.
“For me, he's one of the best players in the history of football. Everyone has an opinion, but he is one of the best, the perfect reference point for me.
“If you ask me, Messi or Ronaldo, I’d say Ramos.”
The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer and will be free to choose his next destination.
He and the Madrid hierarchy have been involved in lengthy negotiations, but an agreement is yet to be struck.
United have previously been touted as a destination for the Spaniard.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a new centre-half in the summer as he looks to bolster several areas of his squad.
Bailly, despite being given more opportunities recently, is yet to fully convince in Manchester.
He and Victor Lindelof have both partnered club skipper Harry Maguire, but United are still keen on new faces.
