Barcelona confirm positive coronavirus test with first team star self-isolating

Barcelona have confirmed that new signing Miralem Pjanic has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The midfielder took a test on Saturday after "experiencing some discomfort".

The 30-year-old, who recently signed from Juventus in a deal worth £59million, is now isolating at home, and is unable to meet his new Barcelona team-mates for 15 days.

Barcelona added that Pjanic, who penned a big-money deal with the Catalan giants in June, is in good health and recovering.

Pjanic's transfer to Barcelona was announced shortly after Arthur went the other way, joining Juventus in a deal worth £66m, plus an additional £8m in bonuses.

Barcelona tied Pjanic down to a four-year deal, and included a huge release clause of £366m to ward off any potential suitors.

The midfielder agreed to remain at Juventus for the rest of the 2019/20 campaign, before meeting up with his new Barcelona team-mates.

The positive coronavirus test has held up this process, but the midfielder will be looking forward to recovering to join his team-mates in training.

Barcelona are struggling at the moment and are in need of some fresh blood to help turn things around at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona legend Ronald Koeman was recently named the club's new manager following the sacking of Quique Setien.

Setien got the bullet after Barcelona were throughly embarrassed in the Champions League, losing 8-2 to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
