Barcelona turmoil continues as Arthur refuses to play in Champions League
Barcelona's turbulent season has taken another turn after their midfielder Arthur Melo told the club he does not wish to play for them anymore.
The 23-year-old is currently in his native Brazil following the conclusion of the La Liga season, but he was expected to return for the conclusion of Barca's Champions League campaign.
Quique Setien's side face Napoli in the second leg of their last-16 tie on August 8, with the scores level at 1-1 following the first game in Italy.
If they are victorious they will then take part in a mini-tournament held in Lisbon between August 12-23, where the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will take place over the course of 12 days.
However, according to Goal Arthur is refusing to return from Brazil, and appears to have played his last game for the club.
The player will join Juventus ahead of next season after a deal worth £66m was agreed with the Serie A champions in June, and it seems he has lost all motivation to represent Barcelona as a result.
It is believed Barcelona have warned him he will be fined if he does not return, but he does not look likely to change his mind as he takes advantage of his time off.
This is just the latest unsavoury saga in what has been an eventful season for Barcelona, with a number of off-field issues overshadowing the action on the pitch.
There has been speculation that their talisman Lionel Messi may look to leave the club after growing disillusioned with life at the Nou Camp, while a number of players are said to be unhappy with Setien's methods.
They may now face a selection headache ahead of the game against Napoli, with fellow midfielders Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal also unavailable due to suspension.
