Bayern Munich ace Joshua Zirkzee mocked for ‘impossible’ miss during pre-season

Despite only recently beginning his professional career, Joshua Zirkzee might well have got the worst miss out his playing days out of the way early in a pre-season friendly.

The Bayern Munich forward missed a gilt-edged chance to hand the Bundesliga juggernauts the lead during the closing stages of the opening period.

Despite rounding veteran goalkeeper Remko Pasveer with relative ease, a lack of urgency from the 20-year-old allowed Perr Schuurs to make an impressive recovery challenge.

The chance came after Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had equalised following Zakaria Labyad's opener, but it was the missed opportunity that caught the disbelief of spectators.

With one fan asking: "How is that even possible."

A second said: "Yes it was an incredible miss but praise the defender also for not giving up, hats off to that man."

A third continued: "Letting your ego get in the way there gutted."

With a fourth adding: "What is he doing, great tackle tho."

With defender Tanguy Nianzou then giving Bayern the lead, Ajax winger Victor Jensen levelled.

New boss Julian Nagelsmann said of the draw: “We were a bit too deep in the first half, weren’t really so forceful in the first line of attack. Still, we had the chance to take the lead just before half-time.

"We had to score that. We then changed things a bit during the break and were really good in the first quarter of an hour after half-time. We applied a lot of pressure and had some good wins of possession.

"Then we substituted ten players. The boys also did very well. They were brave and played well with the ball. Given the squad available to us, it was absolutely fine on the whole.

"We’re very pleased there were spectators today and they supported us. That was a nice experience.”

With Choupo-Moting adding: “It was fun to play here in front of spectators again. There were a lot of positives. Of course, also negatives, but it’s still pre-season.

"We played against a very good team who’ve already got a few friendlies in their legs. We didn’t really find our feet in the first half.

"Things were then better in the second. The boys are doing very well. The automatisms will then also come with time. Julian has made a very good start, like the whole team.

"We’ve trained a lot of new things, very specific things for defence, midfield and forwards. A bit of everything.”
