Borussia Dortmund chief claims at least 26 clubs ‘interested’ in signing Haaland

Erling Haaland is a priority transfer target for Real Madrid – but 25 other clubs are queuing up to sign him.

Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed the Spanish giants are keen on the 21-year-old striking sensation.

Haaland has averaged over a goal a game since joining Dortmund in January 2020 from Red Bull Salzburg.

He is seen as one of the most coveted stars across European football and is being hotly linked with a mega money transfer as the January window fast approaches.

The Norwegian international is contracted to Dortmund until 2024 but is believed to have a release clause that becomes active next year.

And Dortmund CEO Watzke has confirmed Los Blancos are among dozens of clubs pursuing the forward.

“No matter where I go, everyone speaks to you about Erling Haaland," he told BILD TV.

"All I know is a guarantee that Real Madrid are very interested in him. I could name 25 others now.

"But I know for sure, it can be that he leaves, but it can also be that he stays.

"A few days ago I had a very good conversation with Mino Raiola. When we are in a target corridor, the conversations are always quite friendly.

"And that phone call was quite friendly. We will certainly have another meeting in the next few weeks."

Haaland sparked further exit rumours by waving to fans after a 3-0 win over Furth – Dortmund's final home game of the year.

Some sensed this could be a goodbye, but Watzke believes Haaland will benefit from staying in Germany to continue developing his game.

"The overall development of Haaland is in the foreground," he added.

Just like with Lewandowski, I would like to be proud of Erling at some point if he wins the Champions League.

"Personally, I think it's good for him if he stays in the Bundesliga a little longer."
