Borussia Dortmund ‘made Mason Greenwood enquiry’ in Jadon Sancho Man Utd talks
Borussia Dortmund reportedly made an enquiry regarding Mason Greenwood during initial discussions with Man Utd over the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
United are pursuing a deal for Sancho this summer with the winger valued around £100-120million.
Dortmund are resigned to losing their star man, but were interested in the prospect of getting Greenwood as part of the sale.
ESPN report Dortmund made a counter-attempt to sign Greenwood during the negotiations, which was swiftly rejected by United chiefs.
Instead the Red Devils offered Greenwood an improved contract to keep him at the club long-term, since tying the forward down until 2023.
Greenwood had only just begun to break into the United first-team at the time of his contract renewal in October, following an impressive pre-season campaign.
The England youth star has now racked up 13 goals in 36 appearances for United across all competitions this season.
The 18-year-old is highly thought of at Old Trafford, and United have no intention of selling him.
That should not affect their chances of signing Sancho, though any deal is now likely to be purely cash-only.
United remain linked with Harry Kane, though it could be difficult for them to launch moves for both the Tottenham striker and Sancho given the current economic climate.
Dortmund have since turned their attentions from Greenwood to Birmingham starlet Jude Bellingham, who United are also in the race for.
