Brighton fans discover Pascal Gross is literally worth his weight in gold

Baffled Brighton fans have discovered that Pascal Gross is literally worth his weight in gold via a hilarious observation on social media.

Gross, 30, was a £2.5million signing for the newly-promoted Seagulls in 2017 after Chris Houghton's side reached the Premier League for the first time in their history – and he was deemed one of the bargains of the summer after registering seven goals and eight assists during his debut campaign in England.

While Gross may have struggled to kick on under Graham Potter's tenure, one Brighton fan has sensationally noticed that the German midfielder was certainly worth paying the trivial fee.

According to the Seagulls supporter Edward Woodhouse, Gross' weight (78kg) would be worth £2,536,135 in today's gold market – proving his literal weight in gold. And fans have taken to social media to react to the baffling news.

One joked: "But shouldn’t the calculation be Net weight not Gross weight?!"

Another added: "So really you have a Gross profit of £36,135!"

"Solid XG (expected gold) analysis here," quipped a third.

A fourth tweeted: "Some of the best football related analysis I've seen in a long time."

Though the Brighton fan may have sent social media into meltdown, the discovery may have inadvertently been made before – by Sussex Live last season.

The South Coast outlet wrote a report on how Gross was competing with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne in terms of chances created. The news outlets' headline may have been unintentional, but they were bob on the money: Brighton star rivalling Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes is worth his weight in gold.
