Progress slowed during football’s suspension but Arsenal have stepped up their efforts again to tie down Saka, who has shone playing anywhere along the left-wing.
Saka has just a year left on his current deal worth around £3,000 per week.
Sportsmail revealed in February how his situation, with his contract running down, had alerted the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
But after progress slowed he now looks set to follow David Luiz in committing to the club
But after the futures of David Luiz, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares were resolved, Saka is now close to committing his future to Arsenal.
Manager Mikel Arteta said: ‘I am very positive that everything is going to be done with Bukayo very shortly.’
Meanwhile Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has explained his decision to change captains as he prepares to face another side with a skipper with an uncertain future.
Hasenhuttl handed the armband to James Ward-Prowse, replacing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who does not want to extend his contract that expires next summer.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s current deal is also up in 2021. He has still not decided his future and says the call he makes will be ‘possibly the most important decision of my career’.
Hasenhuttl said: ‘It’s important for the team to have a clear message of what we want to have.
‘The captain is a special position in a squad because he is the leader. He is normally going forward and steps ahead of everybody. He tries to push everybody.

‘I don’t mean Pierre [Hojbjerg] cannot do this without his captain’s role. But in general it’s not absolutely perfect if you go into your last season being the captain and say, ‘I don’t want to extend my contract’.
‘Then you must look for players who stay with us longer. I don’t know the internals [of Arsenal’s situation] so I cannot speak about that.
‘I know that it is always difficult when a player goes into his last year of his contract. It’s never a perfect situation.’
