Bukayo Saka was forced off the pitch after picking up an ankle injury during Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Sevilla on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old winger was taken down twice before receiving medical attention from the Arsenal physio on the pitch.

Saka appeared to be in pain while receiving the treatment, forcing Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta to step in and sub him off in the 85th minute.

Thankfully, Saka was able to walk off the pitch unaided and was seen clapping the fans as he made his way back to the bench.

However, referee Istvan Kovacs showed Saka very little sympathy and booked him for taking too long to leave the pitch.

Fans will be relieved to see Saka sat with the rest of the squad instead of heading down the tunnel as that usually indicates a more serious injury.

Nevertheless, Arsenal supporters will be hoping Saka recovers quickly as they already without Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

Speaking about Saka’s injury after the game, Arteta said: ‘It was a knock. Hopefully they are good because we are missing some players.’

Nevertheless, Gareth Southgate – who was sitting in the stands for the game – will be sweating over Saka’s fitness ahead of the next international break.

Saka was ruled out of the last round of international fixtures due to a thigh injury and even missed Arsenal’s victory over Manchester City.

Saka will have been disappointed to leave the pitch in such a fashion on Wednesday evening as he was excelling against the Spanish side.

He set Leandro Trossard up for Arsenal’s first goal of the game and added to his own tally shortly after to see the Gunners win 2-0.

As it stands, no English player has been involved in more Champions League goals this season than Saka.
