Manchester United have been told their new midfield trio could be a hindrance in the season to come.
The Red Devils have made just one signing so far this summer, Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
The Dutchman arrives as another midfielder in a stacked area of the pitch for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, the 23-year-old is seen as a versatile option – who can play as a No. 6, No. 8 or a No. 10.
With Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba also in the mix, the three could potentially star in one of the best midfields in the league.
But Jamie Carragher reckons the trio could hinder United going forward this season.
"Towards the end of last season United were playing really well and they'll get back to that," the ex-Liverpool star told Sky Sports on Monday night.
"I'm not convinced this team, who have now become a more possession-based team since Fernandes has come in, Pogba is in centre of midfield, the more possession you have the more chance you can get counter-attacked, that midfield for me is not right.
"You've got Van de Beek in the No. 10 who came on, Fernandes went back. I think that team will be far too easy to counter attack against."
United succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener after two goals from Wilfried Zaha and one from Jordan Ayew.

It was a case of Zaha, who came back to haunt his old club, giving the Red Devils defence nightmares.
"This is Crystal Palace – good as a counter-attacking team but don't have some of the quality that some of the top teams have at the top end of the pitch,' Carragher added.
"And if I'm proven wrong I'll come on this show and say so but for me, with the pace at centre back and how open they are in the centre of midfield – Manchester United are going to have a real problem stopping teams counter-attacking."
United face Luton Town next in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Van de Beek may be handed his full debut as Solskjaer looks to get him up to spped for the rest of the campaign.
But the EFL Cup will be low on his list of priorities, with Champions League and Premier League football the main objectives.
