Charlton Athletic once baffled football supporters up and down the country by releasing a video supposedly showing a couple having sex on the pitch at The Valley.
The video – masquerading as CCTV footage – showed a couple getting intimate after dark in the centre circle of the pitch.
Originally the footage appeared to be a leak, and the club recognised it as such after they initially launched an investigation into the supposed 'break-in'.
However, after backlash on social media, Charlton quickly backtracked on the investigation and announced the video was deliberately leaked as part of a PR campaign for stadium hire.
"We wanted to launch our pitch hire programme with a viral that would make football fans laugh," Charlton's commercial manager, Mark Hassan-Ali, told the media.
"We released some ‘CCTV’ footage earlier in the week of a young couple on the pitch in a rather amorous situation.
"We then decided to own up and explain that it was set up by us to launch our pitch hire campaign.
"The feedback has been great and we can confirm that the young couple will be attending our next home match."
The planned PR stunt was to promote the club hiring out the pitch over the summer under the tagline 'Score at the Valley’.
The video had over 100million hits on the club's Vine account before the Addicks owned up to the stunt.
