Chelsea and Liverpool players furiously clashed at Anfield following a controversial decision to send Reece James off.
The Premier League giants have gone into the half-time break level at 1-1.
But the Blues will feel hard done by as they appeared to be ending the first 45 minutes ahead following Kai Havertz's looping header on 21 minutes.
A moment of chaos came in additional time, though, which gave Jurgen Klopp's side a lifeline.
With 47 minutes on the clock, a corner is floated in as Sadio Mane tries to get his head on it only to send it wide.
But Joel Matip keeps the ball in play, rifling it across the goal face before it is cleared away by the mass of Chelsea bodies.
Mane is first to the loose ball, though, and tries to poke into bottom-left corner – but James blocks it on the line.
And the Reds' players immediately call for a penalty from referee Anthony Taylor, who lets play continue.
Seconds later, though, the man in the middle is given the word that a VAR check is underway for the Chelsea right-back's role in the defence.

Following a pitchside review, Taylor awards the spot kick – before showing a straight red to James as Mohamed Salah grabs the ball.
The Egyptian cooly slots into the bottom left corner past Edouard Mendy – but it was the moment behind him that caused chaos.
Henderson had tried to distract the Senegalese international by running up as if to take the penalty.
And the goalkeeper vents his anger by kicking the ball straight at the celebrating Liverpool captain.
He reacts furiously, leading players of both the home and away side to get involved as the melee unfolds at Anfield.
Footage later emerged of the Chelsea players surrounding Taylor at half time, fuming at his decision to send James off.
And the Blues faithful shared their anger on Twitter, with one saying: "Not deserved."
Another commented: "Red card too? You are f***ing kidding me."
While a third simply added: "Absolute joke."
