Chelsea have reportedly enquired to Real Madrid about the possibility of signing Achraf Hakimi.
The 21-year-old has impressed while on loan at Borussia Dortmund this season with several top class performances in the Bundesliga.
The Morocco international operates primarily at right-back but can also play left-back or as a winger and would provide good options.
Furthermore, his loan deal in Germany does not contain an option to purchase at the end of the campaign and this has several clubs on red alert.
According to the Mirror , one of those clubs is Chelsea with Frank Lampard looking at Hakimi as another defensive option.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James have been fighting it out at right-back this season but the Madrid ace would add further strength in that area.
Chelsea also have Marcos Alonso and Emerson to call upon at left-back but the Blues could also do with an upgrade in that department.
Real’s initial plan was to include Hakimi in the first-team squad next season but the final call on that will be left with coach Zinedine Zidane.
Hakimi’s representatives are believed to have met with Real bosses last month in a bid to find out their plans for the player.
He has made 17 appearances overall for Real and featured in their Champions League winning campaign in 2017-18.
Impressively, in his 37 appearances for Dortmund this season he has seven goals and 10 assists.
Hakimi’s contract, which runs up until June 2022, contains a release clause of around £50million.
A product of Real Madrid's youth system, the defender has 28 caps for Morocco and was part of their 2018 World Cup squad.
Chelsea have a pot of cash to spend after not signing any players for the last couple of transfer windows.
