Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel added to his star-studded midfield with the arrival of Saul Niguez on Tuesday – and the German will be delighted after hand-picking the Spanish midfield maestro.
Saul has been a mainstay in the great Atletico Madrid team that Diego Simeone has assembled over the last decade.
But after falling out of favour in the Spanish capital due to the emergence of Marcos Llorente amongst other reasons, a move to the European champions seemed to be the best deal for both parties.
Having already added Romelu Lukaku to their ranks in a £97.5million deal last month, Tuchel saw reason for a couple more additions.
And despite a failed move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, Saul was signed with just 15 minutes to go in the transfer window to represent a real coup for the Blues.
Amassing 340 games for Atletico since his debut in 2011/12, there is still a potentially world-class talent in Saul – something which Tuchel will look to carve out to achieve even more accolades in west London.

And according to Tribal Football, Tuchel himself handpicked Saul to be the club’s latest midfield recruit after needing a specific midfielder to complete the Chelsea jigsaw.
The report states that the arrival of Lukaku to Chelsea will massively benefit Saul, given the Spaniard’s brilliant relationship with Diego Costa at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Saul complimented Costa perfectly with his energy, work rate and daringness to attack the final third.
However, with the signing of Luis Suarez, Atleti had to take a different approach to attacking – leading to Saul’s best qualities no longer being needed.
Costa brought Saul into the game with his bullishness, yet Suarez’s guile and attacking brilliance meant that the Elche-born midfielder was almost shunted to the side.
Although with the arrival of Lukaku comes the need for a Saul-esque player due to Lukaku and Costa’s similarity – and there is no one better for the role than Saul himself.
The Spain international was over the moon with his move, stating he couldn’t wait to get back to playing in the style that he showcased.
“Chelsea has promised me to train in my position, to play,” he said.

“To return to certain customs that I do not do now, that is the most important reason for my decision.
“The three midfielders who are playing are at a high level, it will not be easy to play, but if I put my mind to it and fight it, I can get it.”
Chelsea look to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League next week with a home tie against Aston Villa.
