Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is preparing for showdown talks with Romelu Lukaku after the striker said he wasn’t happy with his situation at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku has fallen out of favour in recent weeks and has only made the starting line-up once in the Premier League since returning from injury in November.

Lukaku spoke to Sky Sports Italia earlier this month, where he bemoaned his lack of gametime for the Blues.

The bombshell interview was screened on Thursday and is likely to have stunned Chelsea chiefs.

“I’m not happy with the situation – this is normal,” Lukaku said. “But I am a worker and I must not give up.”

Tuchel addressed Lukaku’s comments during his press conference ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

And the German admitted he will undertake talks with his star striker after being surprised by the revelations.

“We will talk with Lukaku openly behind closed doors,” Tuchel insisted. “I am surprised because I don’t see him unhappy – the opposite.

“We here can take the time to try to understand what is going on with Romelu – it does not reflect the daily attitude.”
