Chelsea are likely to be one of the more active Premier League clubs during the January transfer window as Graham Potter looks to arrest an underwhelming start to the campaign. The Blues currently sit eighth during the break for the World Cup and will need to pick up form quickly if they are to have any chance of getting into the Champions League places.
Here Express Sport takes a look at four players who have enjoyed good tournaments out in Qatar that the club could look to target as they attempt to turn their fortunes around.
The AC Milan star has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over recent months and it is easy to see why the forward has caught Potter’s eye. The 23-year-old has scored seven times and produced nine assists in 20 matches for the Serie A giants this campaign as he highlights his immense quality.
Leao caught the eye during the World Cup despite being unable to break into the starting line up, coming off the bench to score against Switzerland and Ghana. With Armando Broja ruled out for the season with a knee injury the Blues need to sign a new forward and he could fit the bill despite his large expected price tag.
Another Portuguese star that the club could look to target is Felix after reports suggested Atletico Madrid will open to letting the forward leave after he fell out with Diego Simeone. The 23-year-old was considered to be one of the hottest prospects in world football when he made the move to La Liga and will be expected to fulfil that potential at Stamford Bridge.
He enjoyed a positive World Cup scoring once and contributing two assists and Chelsea are believed to be interested with Todd Boehly reportedly adding him to a three-man shortlist to replace Broja. However, the Blues will face competition from across the Premier League with the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa and Newcastle all said to be interested in his services.
With questions over the abilities of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, it has been rumoured that Chelsea could be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Pickford among the names linked. The Everton star enjoyed a solid World Cup keeping three clean sheets as the Three Lions made it to the quarter-finals.
However, the Blues have been sent a warning by former goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon about signing the 28-year-old after he described the player as ‘extremely average’. Should the club heed his advice they may decide to look elsewhere.
The Inter Milan full-back has been linked with Chelsea for some time and his performances at the World Cup could just be enough for the club to pull the trigger. Dumfries scored one and created a further two for the Netherlands as he displayed his talent in both boxes.
The Blues could do with another option at right-back to ease the burden on Reece James and the 26-year-old would fit the bill although the club may have to beat off competition from Chelsea and Tottenham for his signature.
