Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger’s future is still up in the air, with the defender nowhere near close to agreeing a new deal with the club. And Rudiger has now been left ‘disappointed’ by the club’s latest offer according to reports.

Thomas Tuchel has recently told Chelsea to get the deal over the line, with Rudiger held in high regard by his manager.

But the Blues have defied those demands by failing to persuade Rudiger to sign on the dotted line and talks are now on hold according to The Sun.

That means he could be free to talk to overseas clubs in the new year to agree a move for next summer.

Rudiger looked set to depart Stamford Bridge last year after falling out of favour under previous boss Frank Lampard.

But the centre-back saw his Chelsea rejuvenated after Tuchel took the helm in January.

Rudiger became a key figure under his compatriot and was instrumental as Chelsea became one of the best defensive sides in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old was a regular in the top-flight in the second half of last season and played every Champions League game under his new boss as Chelsea stunned Manchester City to lift the trophy in May.

Rudiger has taken his impressive form into the current campaign and has been an ever-present in the Premier League and Champions League.

According to The Mirror, Rudiger has been offered a new deal at Chelsea worth £130,000 a week.

But that figure dwarves what many of the club’s top players are earning, with Romelu Lukaku currently being paid £350,000 a week following his mega-money move from Inter Milan.

Rudiger’s standoff with Chelsea has alerted a string of high-profile clubs, with Bayern Munich and Juventus said to be keen to land the player when his contract expires.

And if he does opt to move abroad, Rudiger could become the highest-paid defender in the history of the game by demanding a £400,000 weekly pay packet.

“I hope that they find solutions, but it’s not only between coaches and players, and what we wish for,” Tuchel said last month.

“And that’s why it’s between the club and the player’s agent at the moment.

“He’s in the strongest league in Europe, in a big club, so not many reasons to change that.

“But in the end, it’s between him and the club, and that’s in good hands.”

Rudiger will be looking to build on his strong start to the season when Germany host Romania in a World Cup qualifier on Friday night.

The defender has started 17 of Germany’s last 20 games.
