Chelsea eye-up Everton’s Lucas Digne with Ben Chilwell sidelined for the SEASON after knee injury… and Ross Barkley could make shock Goodison return in deal

  • Lucas Digne has been exiled at Everton after a fall-out with Rafa Benitez

Chelsea are considering a move for Everton left back Lucas Digne after ruling Ben Chilwell out for the season.

Chilwell will have surgery on his knee ligament injury after the club initially thought he could recuperate without an operation.

They are now considering options with France international Digne among the names to have been discussed.

Lucas Digne has fallen out with Rafa Benitez at Everton and is set to be offloaded this January 

Ben Chilwell’s injury leaves Chelsea short at left-back with the star sidelined for the season 

The 28-year old Digne has not played for Everton since falling out with manager Rafa Benitez and has also been offered to Newcastle United while Napoli and Inter Milan are also among those interested.

Discussions could lead to a Chelsea player heading in the opposite direction with former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley among the names floated. Barkley also has loan interest from Leeds.

Ajax left back Nicolas Tagliafico is another name Chelsea have talked about in recent weeks with the Dutch side open to offers for the Argentine.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring in some numbers with his squad weakened by the outbreak

Digne hasn’t played for Everton since clashing with Benitez and is being eyed-up by a few clubs

Ajax, meanwhile are continuing to explore a deal for Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn. 

The Dutchman has started only three Premier League games this season, having struggled to ever force his way into the team consistently since arriving from PSV in 2019.  

Bergwijn has played just 39 minutes under Conte in the top-flight so far and the 24-year-old could welcome a return to the Eredivisie.
