Chelsea fans beg club to land De Jong after his insane solo run for Barcelona

Manchester United's pursuit of Frenkie De Jong is reportedly at risk of being hijacked by Chelsea, and fans are begging new owner Todd Boehly to sign the Barcelona star.

The Dutchman is in high demand, and it's not surprising due to the fact that he's enjoying an exceptional pre-season. De Jong has proved his versatility by playing at centre-back this summer, and now fans are going wild after he produced a stunning solo run from his own penalty box.

Xavi has confirmed that "anything can happen between now and August 31" as his future remains up in the air. De Jong is said to be waiting for wages to be paid before leaving Barcelona, but Chelsea fans are crying out for their club to strike a deal.

De Jong ran the whole length of the pitch before picking out a pinpoint pass, and it was the fault of the attackers that the move didn't result in a goal. Barcelona beat Mexican side UNAM Pumas 6-0 to win the Joan Gamper trophy, with De Jong also getting on the scoresheet late on.

New signing Robert Lewandowski made an instant breakthrough after three minutes, and Pedri grabbed a brace from midfield. But it was De Jong that once again caught the eye, putting him in the shop window even more.

One Chelsea fan begged: "Mr Boelhy, pay. Pay and don’t speak." And another added: "This would be a statement signing we have been talking about."

Others started dreaming about a new midfield partnership, as one fan said: "De Jong and Kovacic as a double pivot would dominate any midfield, I don't care man." And another suggested De Jong should replace Jorginho, as they added: "I'm imagining Jorginho here and I'm crying."

Some fans even joked that De Jong is trying harder due to being linked to United, as one wrote: "Man was threatened to be shipped to United and turned into prime Iniesta." Another added: "If he leaves I hope he joins Chelsea, won't be able to see him suffering in Manchester."

De Jong is clearly very talented, and that's why Barcelona paid £86million for him back in 2019. The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer, but the saga continues to stall.
