Chelsea have Declan Rice transfer plan after being prevented from summer bid

Chelsea are set to reignite their interest in Declan Rice.

The versatile West Ham star was released by the Blues as a teenager – but has recently forced his way into Gareth Southgate’s England plans with consistent Premier League performances.

Although David Moyes is desperate to keep hold of his most prized asset, Frank Lampard’s plans at Stamford Bridge could prove to be too exciting to resist for the 21-year-old best pal of Mason Mount.

It has now been reported that a fresh approach for the player will follow in January.

The Athletic report that although Chelsea were keen to make a substantial bid for Rice in the summer, two permanent outgoing transfers fell through before the deadline which put plans on hold.

The summer spend of over £200m included Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy – and the club are now hoping that Rice rejects any offer of a new deal at West Ham.

Moyes said of the situation in July: "I’m confident he will be here because he’s under contract.

"But like anything else, even the biggest clubs sometimes sell their players because they get the right value.

"But my intention is not to sell Declan at all, my intention is to keep him. But we can’t stop other clubs making offers, but the truth is we’ve had no offers or nothing, nobody has come to us.

"He’s a really good player and I see him helping us, and I hope he sees what we are trying to do. We’re going to try and add better players and add things to it which would make him excited about being at West Ham in the future."

With Lampard saying in September: “They are rumours, I can’t talk about these things, but when players are ours it’s not my position to speculate on what may be.

“It’s the same on the other side from players from other clubs. And I’ll continue that way.”

In a chat with Sky Sports News, Jack Wilshere said of his former team-mate last week: “I have said it before how much I rate him as a player and how much I enjoyed playing with and training with him and being around him.

“It is very important for West Ham that they kept him there this year.

There is always going to be the big teams that come to try and take Declan Rice.

“That’s something that West Ham are going to deal with. But they have got him this year.”
