The international break came at a bad time for Chelsea given the form Frank Lampard's side had discovered prior to the two-week Premier League hiatus.
Lampard's side are currently unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions and have won their last four matches, scoring 14 goals in the process.
Chelsea will return to action on Saturday with a trip to Newcastle United, and the array of talent signed in the summer is likely to be on display at St James' Park.
Yet the Blues activity in the transfer market does not appear to be over.
We are less than two months away from the January window opening, and chances are Lampard will be busy as he tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title and in the Champions League.
With that in mind here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
Chelsea identify Rice alternative
Chelsea have registered their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, according to reports.
Bellingham, 17, joined the Bundesliga giants from Birmingham City in the summer and has made a strong impression with the German club, earning his first call-up to the England senior side for the current Nations League fixtures.
That has alerted Chelsea to his potential, according to Eurosport, as they search for alternatives to West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
The Hammers star, who was a member of Chelsea's academy until his release aged 14, was wanted by the Blues throughout the summer transfer window.
So far the two clubs have failed to reach an agreement largely down to West Ham’s asking price, which is rumoured to be in the region of £70 million.
Giroud ready to push for a Chelsea exit
Olivier Giroud is not against the idea of leaving Chelsea in January if he continues to sit on the bench.
The former Arsenal striker is considered an important part of the French national team, but he is keen to play regular football ahead of the European Championships.
Giroud was keen to leave the club in the summer, but was convinced to stay by Frank Lampard. But the situation has once again reared its head and now the Athletic reports that Giroud is considering his future once again.
France coach Didier Deschamps outlined the need for Giroud to play during a press conference before Les Bleus’ UEFA Nations League game against Sweden on Tuesday night.
“Olivier knows it — the situation he’s in today cannot drag on forever. Before March (when France begin their World Cup qualifying campaign) he will have to find another situation than this one,” he said.

Newcastle United and Leeds United will go head to head for the signing of Conor Gallagher, according to The Sun.
Gallagher, 20, is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion after a strong season in the Championship with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.
The England youth international may struggle to earn regular first-team minutes with the Blues and that has seen Leeds and Newcastle emerge as potential suitors.
It is believed that Chelsea value Gallagher at £10 million.
