Chelsea have been told to show Sevilla the money or forget all about signing £68m-rated defender Jules Kounde.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in the highly-rated France centre back once Romelu Lukaku finally completes his £97.5m move from Inter Milan.
But Sevilla sporting director Monchi claims Chelsea have yet to bid for the 22-year-old, who has a £68m buyout clause in his contract.
And while the La Liga club are willing to listen to offers for Kounde – they will only sell if the price is right.
Monchi said: "Jules is fine, calm. There is noise around him. To this day there has been no specific offer for him.
“There has been no real offer. Yes, interest and clubs asking for him. The player wants to know what will happen. I don't know.
“But he is within a club that has a policy of business that is not going to change, and I would not change it.
“When we believe that there is an important offer, we accept it because that will allow us to improve the team. Whenever we sold, we grew.
“But if there is no offer we believe we can reinvest, he will continue with us.”
Do you think Chelsea will spend £68million on Kounde? Let us know in the comments section.
Kounde, who rejected a move to Tottenham earlier in the window, is under contract at Sevilla until 2024.
And despite his young age he has plenty of experience having played 63 times in La Liga and 26 games in European competitions.
Chelsea made him their top priority defensive recruit this summer but are currently focused on getting Lukaku’s transfer over the line.
Inter star Lukaku underwent the first part of his medical in Italy this week before flying to Monaco to sign a fresh contract with his agent.
The Belgium striker is now expected in London to sign a five-year deal worth £200,000 a week – with Chelsea set to turn their attention to Kounde next.
The Blues will make space for him in their squad by selling Kurt Zouma, who is available for £25m and has attracted interest from West Ham.
