Chelsea ‘join the race to sign £18m Real Madrid star Sergio Reguilon’ as Frank Lampard looks to trump former boss Carlo Ancelotti to the left-back’s signature
- Chelsea are hoping to sign defender Sergio Reguilon on a loan basis this summer
- Their interest could be a sign that Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is not joining Chelsea
- Frank Lampard will have to compete with Everton and Sevilla to sign Reguilon
- The Toffees have already put forward a £18million bid for the Real Madrid starlet
Chelsea have reportedly entered the transfer race to sign Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon as Frank Lampard weighs up alternatives to Leicester’s Ben Chilwell.
But the Stamford Bridge outfit face competition from Everton and Sevilla, who had the 23-year-old on loan last season where he was voted LaLiga’s best left-back.
The Toffees are said to be the favourites to land Reguilon after placing an £18million bid over the weekend while, according to Marca, Chelsea will first look to sign him on a season-long loan.

Chelsea’s growing interest in Reguilon could be a sign that Leicester and England defender Chilwell will not be making the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Foxes are demanding £80m for Chilwell – who is under contract until 2024 – so Reguilon could be seen as a more feasible alternative for Frank Lampard.
Amid the financial ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic, Lampard could be looking to hold back on another big spend having signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech for £90m combined. Kai Havertz is also expected to arrive.

But now Lampard is looking to frustrate the man who was once his manager at Chelsea
Reguilon spent last season on loan at Sevilla and he was voted LaLiga’s best left-back
Reguilon was named in WhoScored’s LaLiga team of the season after completing the second-highest number of key passes from open play of any defender in the division.
A potential move to London for Reguilon may see Chelsea replicate the deal they had in place with Madrid for midfielder Matteo Kovacic.
The Blues landed the Croatia international on loan in 2018 before going on to sign him permanently for £40m.

Meanwhile Everton boss Carlos Ancelotti – one of Lampard’s former managers at Chelsea – is looking to replace Leighton Baines, who retired at the end of the season.
Sevilla are looking to bring Reguilon back to the club after he played a crucial role during his loan last year.
He helped them achieve a fourth-place finish in the league and qualify for the Champions League.
