Former Chelsea legend John Terry is ‘set to make first managerial breakthrough’ by joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

According to the Sun, Terry was approached by the Saudi club two months ago and a deal has already been verbally agreed.

The 42-year-old has been offered an inital contract of at least two years, but this could go up to four years should the deal be finalised.

Terry would join a host of former Premier League stars in the Saudi Pro League, including former England teammate Steven Gerrard who currently manages Al-Ettifaq.

This would be the first full managerial role the Englishman would take on, after working as a consultant in Chelsea’s youth academy this year.

As a mark of respect for the dedication and loyalty showed to Chelsea over the years, the West London club will reportedly allow him to leave his role in the youth set-up for Saudi Arabia.

Terry won five Premier League titles and the Champions League while at Chelsea, becoming one of only six players to make over 500 appearances for the club.

While Al-Shabab are not considered one of the major Saudi Pro League sides at the moment, they have ambitious owners who view Terry’s sizeable playing experience as a key draw for new signings.

As a coach, Terry has worked as an assistant at Aston Villa and Leicester City under Dean Smith but is yet to land the top job in England.

A move to Saudi could be exactly what he needs to kick-start a successful managerial career which, if anywhere near as successful as his playing days, could mean a phone call from Chelsea somewhere down the line.
