Chelsea on red alert over Declan Rice as West Ham want exits "badly"

Chelsea could be about to re-sign Declan Rice.

Frank Lampard is likely to switch his attention back to his defence after a deal for Kai Havertz is completed, and he could see the versatile Rice as an option in the middle.

The England intentional played both in midfield and central defence under David Moyes last season, and the player could consider a move back to Stamford Bridge after leaving as a youngster.

Despite his importance to West Ham, the 21-year-old is not likely to come cheap, and his exit would allow for a string of incoming deals at the London Stadium before the new season.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Hammers 'badly' want to shift some of their playing squad this summer.

That could alert their London rivals, who have shown no signs of slowing down their huge spending.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are set to be joined by Germany international Havertz in the coming days, but supporters are desperate to see some reinforcement at the back.

Lampard was open about his desire to spend this summer having scraped Champions League qualification with a fourth-place Premier League finish, and so far he will not be disappointed.

Back in August Lampard was spotted to have ‘liked’ a post on Instagram by his old team-mate John Terry, who was sat alongside Rice.

The caption of the photo said: “What a CB partnership this would have been.”

Although Chelsea have brought in both Silva and Malang Sarr, the former is unlikely to be a regular throughout the season, and the latter is set to leave on loan for the entire campaign.

After the signing of PSG veteran Silva was confirmed, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia raved over his ability and experience.

She said: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.

“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.

“Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.”
