Chelsea fended off late interest from Bayern Munich in Callum Hudson-Odoi by reportedly looking to insert clauses in any potential loan deal that would put the Bundesliga giants off signing the youngster.
Bayern, who have held a long-term interest in Hudson-Odoi, ramped up their pursuit of the Chelsea star once again late in the summer transfer window but they eventually came up short in their loan bid.
And according to Sport Bild, as Bayern went on the offensive in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi by making several phone calls to Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, she played hardball with his suitors.

Chelsea reportedly wanted to insert various clauses into his contract if he moved to Bayern on loan, including a penalty clause if he didn’t play enough games for the club.
The Blues also demanded an obligation for Bayern to buy the winger for over £70million if he reached a certain number of appearances at the Allianz Arena.
Therefore, any loan deal would have turned into a costly project for the Champions League winners, who eventually decided to break things off with Chelsea.
The 19-year-old has started the last two games for Chelsea and seems to have forced his way into the first team, so the Blues were determined not to let him leave.
Hansi Flick hailed the talent of Hudson-Odoi as they chased a loan deal for Chelsea youngster
After signing a new contract at Chelsea in the summer of 2019, Hudson-Odoi came back from a serious Achilles injury but seemed unlikely to start this season after the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, all of whom can play in wide positions, with Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, when fit, also seemingly more likely to play.
And after the German side’s interest in Hudson-Odoi became well known again, Hansi Flick described him in glowing terms.
Flick said: ‘He is one of the greatest talents in that position. He can play wide and as a No 10 so it’s entirely legitimate that we at Bayern Munich are interested in him.’
But Frank Lampard since decided that he wanted to keep Hudson-Odoi at Stamford Bridge, although there is a chance Bayern could make another attempt to sign him in January if he falls down the pecking order.
Lampard has shown faith in Hudson-Odoi by starting him in Chelsea’s last two fixtures
Speaking after the weekend’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, Lampard said: ‘Also what Callum wants will come into consideration. At the minute I want Callum as part of my squad, particularly when he’s offering up what he offered up in the second half and when he came on against West Brom.
‘I think Callum’s performance particularly in the second half today when he got more aggressive and got past his full back on the outside was exactly what he needs to show
‘Because Callum absolutely has the ability and pace and ability on the ball to do that and put crosses in which he started to do. Callum is absolutely part of our plans here. We have Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech to come back into play, we need options on the wings and I was very pleased with him.’
