Chelsea prepare Kounde bid, Rice rejects contract and receive Moriba boost

Chelsea are arguably the favourites to win the Premier League title this season following their Champions League win last season and a strong summer window.

Thomas Tuchel’s side easily dispatched Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on the weekend with new £97.5million signing Romelu Lukaku netting on his debut.

The Blues are expected to make at least one more addition before the end of the transfer window with Jules Kounde being the primary target.

But the club are eager to first confirm the sales of Ike Ugbo to Genk, Davide Zappacosta to Atalanta and potentially Kurt Zouma to West Ham before they free up the necessary funds.

Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Chelsea transfer news below…

‘Direct contact’ over Kounde

Chelsea are reportedly in direct contact with Sevilla over Kounde and will make a new bid for the defender ‘soon’.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the club are keen to sign Kounde, 22, as soon as possible with Sevilla unlikely to sell the Frenchman in the final days of the window.

The player has a £68million release clause which Chelsea have been reluctant to meet, instead having had a player-plus-cash deal that included Kurt Zouma rejected.

Rice rejects deal

Chelsea transfer target Declan Rice has reportedly rejected a new contract with West Ham after being unhappy with the club’s £100million valuation of him.

Rice, 22, has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons, having spent eight years with the academy before being released as a teenager.

Now the Telegraph reports the midfielder is looking to run down his contract despite still having three years remaining on his deal, as he eyes a potential move to a Champions League club.

Blues have Moriba advantage

Chelsea reportedly have an advantage in the race for Barcelona midfielder Illaix Moriba.

The 18-year-old’s contract at the Camp Nou is set to expire next summer and the Catalans are desperate to sell their academy graduate, with only Chelsea willing to pay the £17.1million asking price.

Mundo Deportivo reports Manchester City are only looking to sign the player for free next summer which could work in favour of the West London side.
