Chelsea midfielder Jorginho refuses to rule out a return to former side Napoli, according to his agent Joao Santos. However, Blues transfer chief Marina Granovskaia is likely to have her own say in the matter, with a new contract already in the pipeline which could see the Italian’s future pinned down to Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho has been a mainstay in Thomas Tuchel’s midfield this season, with many calling for him to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

A Champions League triumph with the Blues and a Euro 2020 victory with Italy last season should certainly help him in that regard, and he has started this campaign in impressive fashion.

His metronomic passing is crucial to Chelsea’s style of play, and their table-topping status is safe for two weeks during the international break.

With his current deal set to expire in 2023, however, talks have supposedly turned to whether he will renew his contract at Stamford Bridge.

According to Santos, who spoke during a guest appearance on 1 Football Club, Granovskaia has already made her stance clear.

“Never say never [to Jorginho returning to Napoli], because the market is very dynamic,” he admitted.

“Marina Granovskaia, however, has already let us know that she wants to renew his contract, so we’ll see what happens.”

Chelsea fans will very much hope their transfer chief prevails, although Napoli could presumably table a tempting offer given their superb form to kick off this Serie A season.

Although it took many in England a while to recognise Jorginho’s true talents, his specific skill set is now clear as he carries out a distinctive role in Chelsea’s midfield.

He has also developed into a penalty specialist, rarely missing from the spot via his trademark hop before striking the ball.

The usual suspects are also in the mix for Ballon d’Or contention, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski.

However, manager Maurizio Sarri, who has worked with Jorginho at both Napoli and Chelsea, tips his former star to take home the grand prize.

“If he wins the European Championship too, he will become one [Ballon d’Or winner]”, he claimed.

“He is so good and intelligent that he makes everything seem easy, rarely anything spectacular remains in your eyes. This is its greatness.

“When I started dealing with Chelsea he was signing with City, we were able to intervene and bring him to Chelsea.

“Fans and journalists struggled to understand this boy’s game. Then he exploded in popularity in England too, now I have seen that he made the captain. He deserves it.”
