Chelsea stars face punishment after Newcastle hammering as Pochettino fumes
Chelsea boss Pochettino apologises to ref Taylor after storming pitch at whistle
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino fumed at his players following Saturday’s 4-1 humiliation against Newcastle United. Pochettino’s troublesome start to his Premier League return continued at St James’ Park, with Blues stars set to be punished for their latest disastrous afternoon.
The Argentine boss watched the hammering from the stands, having been hit with a one-match suspension for yellow cards against Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley and Manchester City this season.
Alexander Isak fired Newcastle ahead early in the first half before Raheem Sterling responded with a sensational free-kick.
But the hosts ran riot after the break. Jamaal Lascelles restored their lead on the hour mark, and Thiago Silva’s blunder helped Joelinton make it 3-1 just moments later.
Anthony Gordon added a fourth, condemning Chelsea to their fifth defeat in 13 Premier League games this season.
And an upset Pochettino described the performance as the worst he had seen since taking charge at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
“It was our worst game of the season. It was tough to be in the stands. We cannot complain about the result,” Pochettino vented to Premier League Productions after full-time.

“We did not read the game from the beginning. We did not play how we should play. We showed a lack of intensity and energy.
“Even after we scored, at 1-1, it was a chance for us to force them to play deep, but it was so easy for Newcastle. That is why I am so upset with the performance.”
Chelsea host seventh-place Brighton in their next outing on Sunday, but Pochettino has revealed there will be no time for his players to rest.
The 51-year-old expects his squad in training in the morning to analyse their latest defeat and start preparations for the visit of Roberto De Zerbi’s dangerous side.

Pochettino added: “It is a young team. They need this type of situation to realise. We will go to the hotel, then train early tomorrow, no time off.
“We cannot blame the players. It is the team together. We need to understand the level we need to compete and learn about this situation.
“There are many details, many things that build confidence and strength. We already know what is going on, and we will try to change the dynamic.”
