Chelsea think they can sign Rennes teenager Eduardo Camavinga for just £26million, it has been claimed. Manchester United are also keen on the 18-year-old. But, despite the Red Devils appearing to be frontrunners in the race to sign the youngster, a move to Old Trafford isn’t a formality.
Chelsea have had a slow start to the summer transfer window.
But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, with Thomas Tuchel already boasting one of the best squads in the entire Premier League.
Chelsea want to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, believing the Norway international would be a substantial upgrade on the likes of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud at the tip of their attack.
Declan Rice is another player under consideration, despite Roman Abramovich refusing to sanction a deal for the West Ham star 12 months ago.
And, in recent days, Camavinga has emerged as a target too.
The Rennes star has just a year left on his current contract and, as a result, he’s expected to be sold this summer.

Manchester United want Camavinga to go alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, while Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Real Madrid have been linked as well.
But journalist Pete O’Rourke, speaking on The Football Terrace podcast, has claimed Chelsea think they can win the race for the teenager – and for a low fee of £26m.
“I know Chelsea have been watching him for a long time,” he said.
“And they think they can get him for a bargain fee of £26m. That’s nothing for Chelsea, they could possibly go and do that deal.
“I think it’s going to be a real fight for Camavinga.”

Camavinga’s preference has previously been to stay in France, with PSG earmarked as his ideal next club.
But with the Ligue 1 giants scrambling to tie Kylian Mbappe down to a new contract, they currently have other priorities on their mind.
PSG have also been frugal this summer, going after free agents such as Gianluigi Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos.
And with the club looking to carefully manage their spending, the prospect of Camavinga moving to the Parc des Princes appears to be remote.
Speaking earlier this year, Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett expressed a belief the youngster would be in demand this summer.
“At the moment, he’s a Rennes player,” Barnett told Goal. “He likes Rennes and, at the moment, we haven´t really taken to other clubs. It isn’t our position.
“Let’s see what happens later on, but he’s doing well in Rennes and that’s fine. Being the best midfielder in the world, that’s how I see his future, [with] a lot of medals and a lot of trophies.
“[Madrid are] a great club, a great club to play for.
“Eduardo will have a choice of a lot of clubs if Rennes decides to release him. They will be one of the four of five clubs in the world he might go to.
“Eduardo would love to play for a top club. Madrid are one of those top clubs in the world, so are Barcelona.”
And Barnett also recently name dropped the teenager when talking about players at his agency who could be on the move.
“It is going to be harder. I’m expecting three or four very big deals of my own that will break a lot of records,” Barnett told the Athletic.
“Hopefully, they’ll come about. For the smaller clubs, I think there won’t be as many transfers. We have some very good players.
“We have probably the best young player in the world in Camavinga.
“We’ve got [Jack] Grealish. We’ve got [Ibrahima] Konate at Leipzig. But then I’ve got over 100 players.”
