Chelsea have spent more than £200million in the summer transfer window – but that doesn’t mean they are not looking to add more names to their stellar squad.
Frank Lampard will be determined to bring in more new players, especially in defence where his team struggled last season. The goalkeeping situation needs to be resolved as well.
There will be outgoings at Stamford Bridge, too, with a number of out-of-favour players set to leave.
With that in mind, here is the latest Chelsea transfer news.
New keeper at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have signed a goalkeeper – but he won’t be challenging Kepa Arrizabalaga or Willy Caballero for a starting spot just yet.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe has arrived from Burton Albion, although the 17-year-old will further his development by staying at the League One side this campaign.
Sharman-Lowe received a call up to the England Under-17s in February, while Petr Cech, Chelsea’s head of recruitment, watched him play during the off-season.
Batshuayi set for temporary switch
Striker Michy Batshuayi is being linked with another loan move away from Chelsea, this time to West Bromwich Albion.
According to The Sun, the Premier League new boys would like to take the Belgian to The Hawthorns.
The 26-year-old’s current deal at Stamford Bridge expires next year, but Chelsea plan to offer him a new contract, which would ensure they don’t lose him for nothing next summer.
Batshuayi has already been shipped out on loan to Crystal Palace, Valencia and Borussia Dortmund in recent seasons.
Chelsea starlet is attracting Leeds’ attention
Another Chelsea squad member who could be set for a temporary spell away from Stamford Bridge is youngster Conor Gallagher.
The Sun report that the 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City, could move to Premier League new boys Leeds United.
Football.london reported last week that the talented midfielder had completed a medical at Crystal Palace, but Leeds could now steal him from under the Eagles’ noses.
Mendy targeted by Chelsea chiefs
A new arrival at Stamford Bridge may come in the shape of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The report claims that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is keen to bring in the 6ft 6in shot-stopper, having considered a string of goalkeepers over the summer, including Burnley ’s Nick Pope and Lille’s Mike Maignan.
Mendy, 28, has previously worked with Chelsea head of goalkeeping Christophe Lollichon.
