Chelsea vs Sevilla prediction: Who will win the Champions League clash?

Chelsea and Sevilla are gearing up for their first European meeting against one another. The Blues crashed out of the Champions League’s last 16 last season following a 7-1 thrashing on aggregate against eventual champions Bayern Munich. Sevilla are back in Europe’s top competition after winning last season’s Europa League.

Chelsea, though, have added Champions League experience to their squad over the summer with the arrival of defender Thiago Silva and forwards Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Blues boss Frank Lampard said: “It is a great platform to learn because you’re playing against the best, and we played against the best in Bayern Munich.

“We were a young team last year, working a lot to improve.

“The Bayern game was a great marker for the young players in the squad to realise the levels that need to be attained. I remember having that myself as a young player.

“Of the players we have brought in, some have more Champions League experience than others.”

The percentages shown below are based on how fans have been betting on the various markets.

A spokesperson for thepools.com said: “It amazes me that Sevilla are backed so poorly in their trip to Stamford Bridge.

“I doubt Chelsea’s defence can walk a dog properly – they’re awful to hold on to a lead as last weekend showed.

“So to have the Europa League champions 27.8% is almost criminal.

“The likes of Luuk de Jong (32.3% to score anytime) and Carlos Fernandez (30.3%) could have a field day against Frank Lampard’s side.

“Now that Timo Werner has a taste for goals in a Chelsea shirt, he’ll be desperate for more on Europe’s biggest stage.

“He’s 20% likely to score the first goal while fellow German Kai Havertz is 13.3% to open the scoring.

“Either way, it will be a miracle to see a clean sheet for Chelsea to grab a clean sheet at 35.7%.

“Both teams to score and a draw is 23.8% and worth a shout.”
