Georginio Wijnaldum is "worn out" and his move to Paris Saint-Germain was a "mistake" according to a 'close friend' of the Dutch midfielder.
Wijnadum joined the French giants on a free transfer this summer following the expiry of his contract at Liverpool and signed a three-year deal at the Parc des Princes.
He had been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona before signing for PSG and also reportedly held talks with German champions Bayern Munich.
However, despite being in fine form as he captained the Netherlands at the Euros, he has failed to hit the ground running in Paris.
French sports newspaper L'Equipe quote a 'close friend' of Wijnaldum as saying that: “Signing him for three years was a mistake. He is 30-years-old but he started very young (at 16 as a professional) and he’s worn out, his best is behind him.”
This scathing review comes after Wijnaldum has featured in all bar one of PSG's opening seven matches of the season, having been an unused substitute in the win over Clermont Foot last weekend.
However, he has failed to score or register an assist in his first six appearances for the Parisiens.
Wijnaldum had impressed at the Euros before arriving in Paris, though, scoring three goals in four matches as he captained the Netherlands prior to their round of 16 exit.
