Cristiano Ronaldo would prefer to play for Real Madrid again than Manchester United, reports claim. The Portugal international’s future at Juventus is currently up in the air, with mixed messages emerging. Yet while the Old Lady are willing to accept a reduced fee for the 36-year-old, his huge wages will still represent an obstacle to any potential departure.
Ronaldo was a roaring success at both Manchester United and Real Madrid.
He moved to Old Trafford as David Beckham’s replacement in 2003, initially taking his time to adjust to his new surroundings.
But Ronaldo, in his prime at the Theatre of Dreams, established himself to be one of the club’s greatest-ever players by propelling them to three Premier League titles and the Champions League crown.
In 2009, he moved to Real Madrid – fulfilling a childhood dream in the process.
And he scaled new heights throughout his time at the Bernabeu, plundering 450 goals in nine years and firing Los Blancos to two La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns.

Since 2018, Ronaldo has continued to sparkle at Juventus.
But he’s been tipped to leave the club in the wake of their European exit to Porto last week where he was at fault for the decisive goal.
United have been linked, as they always are, while Real have too.
And Eurosport say Ronaldo is leaning towards a move back to Spain instead of to Old Trafford, with the veteran telling his agent Jorge Mendes to test the waters with an enquiry.

And getting Gareth Bale off the wage bill could make that happen, with the Los Blancos star spending the season on loan at Tottenham.
The La Liga giants will also have to consider the Eden Hazard situation.
The Belgium international, who currently occupies Ronaldo’s old No 7 shirt at the Bernabeu, is on big wages and has struggled ever since his arrival from Chelsea nearly two years ago.
Real, for their part, haven’t entirely ruled out the ex-United star coming back.
But their preference would be to sign either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Sources aren’t ‘particularly optimistic’ the forward will come back.
Yet stranger things have happened in football and this saga looks set to ignite the minute the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Julien Laurens recently admitted he’d prefer to see Ronaldo return to United, instead of Real.
Speaking on the Gab and Juls podcast, Laurens said: “So where? So Bayern? No. Man City? No. Liverpool? No.
“Would Manchester United take him now? At 36. I would love that, I would love that.
“I think United are the only ones. There is no one else.”
Zinedine Zidane mischievously claimed reports linking Ronaldo back to the Bernabeu ‘might be true’.
Yes, it may be [true],” Zidane told Sky in Italy, when asked about the rumours linking Ronaldo with a return to Real.
“We know Cristiano, we know the person he is and everything he has done here.
“But now he’s a Juventus player and we must respect this.
“Now, let’s see what the future will be. I was lucky enough to coach him and he is very impressive. Right now, he’s helping Juventus.”
