Denmark hero Mikkel Damsgaard beat England stopper Jordan Pickford with a stunning free-kick at Wembley on Wednesday evening as Gareth Southgate watched his side concede for the first time at Euro 2020.

Although the score was level just minutes later as Raheem Sterling forced Simon Kjaer into an own goal having hitting Kasper Schmeichel with a golden chance just earlier.

Ahead of the clash, the Three Lions hadn't conceded a goal across their five previous fixtures, but were undone by a piece of brilliance from the youngster.

The 21-year-old, who scored against Russia in the group stages, has proved to be a worthy replacement of Christian Eriksen after he was forced out of the tournament.

Having beaten the wall with ease, the ball dipped into the net despite moving slightly towards the centre while in the air.

One viewer said on Twitter: "That Damsgaard goal was stunning man."

With a second adding: "Okay that was a beautiful goal from Damsgaard."

With a third saying: "This kid is a gem. What a brilliant free-kick that was! Extraordinary goal."

Chris Waddle said of the goal on BBC Radio 5 Live: "You'll not see a better free kick than that. How good is this technique?

"He just steps up to hit it with the top of his foot. It's not far off the top corner. Jordan Pickford might be a bit disappointed he hasn't got there but it's the sheer pace of the ball that beats him.

"Fantastic technique."

With Karen Carney adding: "As soon as he hit it, it was in. The pace. You could say Pickford, could he have got there? Pickford did fall to his knees, he was gutted with conceding it.

"But from my angle the pace on it, I don't think he could have done anything about it. Straight away Harry Kane, John Stones, Harry Maguire were like 'come on, we've got this'.

"We've got the bench and we can come back from this but it was a sensational free-kick and it was going in the moment he struck it."
