"Dramatic" Ronaldo mocked after ‘feigning injury’ in Portugal vs Belgium clash

Cristiano Ronaldo has been mocked online after feigning a facial injury during Portugal's last-16 clash with Belgium at Euro 2020.

The 36-year-old star hit the deck midway through the first-half after an apparent coming together with Thomas Meunier.

Ronaldo ran into the Belgium right-back at high-speed before falling to the ground and immediately clutching his face.

He remained on the floor for several seconds, checking his mouth for blood, before returning to his feet with Portugal on the attack.

TV replays showed there to be no contact between Juventus star Meunier and Ronaldo's face, leaving football fans up-in-arms on social media.

One supporter wrote: "Cristiano Ronaldo gets hit in the arm, and he falls down and holds his face. What an idiot."

While another said: "Ronaldo goes down screaming and holding his face despite no-one touching his face!"

A third person chimed in with: "That’s so pathetic from Ronaldo, you’re almost 40 pal enough diving and holding your face."

"That was all rather dramatic from Ronaldo", began another Twitter user. "He's probably the greatest player in the world. He doesn't need to give us the amateur dramatics. Jut stick to the football."

Ronaldo's audition for an amateur dramatics group wasn't his only involvement of note in the first-half.

The 36-year-old almost gave Portugal the lead with a sweetly taken free-kick, but Thibaut Courtois was equal to it.

Had it gone in, Ronaldo would have overtaken Iranian striker Ali Daei as the player with the most goals in international football.

The pair are tied on 109 apiece after Ronaldo scored two penalties against France in Portugal's final group game on Wednesday.

He needs one more to break the record which Daei has held since 2003 when his 85th international goal, scored against Lebanon, took him past Ferenc Puskas' tally of 84.
