Arsenal and Tottenham might suffer an early January transfer blow with target Dusan Vlahovic refusing to rule out signing a new contract at Fiorentina. The Serbian is one of the hottest prospects in European football having enjoyed a prolific couple of seasons.

Vlahovic has 18 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this term.

The 21-year-old’s form has prompted links with some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing the star. The Gunners might need a new centre-forward in the summer.

Spurs have long sought a back-up for Harry Kane with mixed success. New boss Antonio Conte has few options to turn to should the England captain be absent.

However, those two clubs might need to seek out other options after Vlahovic suggested that he could still sign a new deal with Fiorentina.

His current contract expires in 2023.

“I have stated this several times in the past, a beautiful football story is being made here in Florence,” he told Politika.

“We have a good team, great football players and great support from the fans. They all deserve respect.

“Only god knows what will happen in the next period of my career, but my wish is to bring Fiorentina to Europe, because we have not been in Europe for a long time.

“I don’t know what can happen overnight. We’ll see.”

When asked about the possibility of a new contract, Vlahovic said: “Never say never. But at the moment I am focused on winning matches.”

Arsenal’s need for a striker will likely grow in the summer as boss Mikel Arteta faces the prospect of potentially losing all three of his options before the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems unlikely to rekindle his Arsenal career after being excluded from the first team.

The Gabon international was stripped of the captaincy following a breach of discipline ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League clash with Southampton on December 11.

He has not featured since and appears set to depart either in January or at the end of the season.

Arteta’s two other strikers, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, are both out of contract in June. New deals for the pair seem unlikely, with the latter linked with transfers to both Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace.

The academy forward Folarin Balogun is set to spend the remainder of the season on loan. Sky Sports reported that a number of Championship clubs, including Middlesbrough, have shown an interest.
