Elanga takes swipe at Rangnick as he says Man Utd finally fit under Ten Hag

Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga has taken a swipe at Ralf Rangnick when speaking about new boss Erik ten Hag.

Elanga has been working under the Dutchman during United's pre-season tour of Australia ahead of the new season. And the Red Devils have impressed with victories over Liverpool, in Thailand, and Melbourne Victory down under, where they continue to train.

The Swede revealed that United wasn't fit enough under the German, and it has taken Ten Hag two weeks to get the squad in shape. Elanga said: “We’ve been working a lot, not just on the ball but off the ball as well.

“We know we weren’t as fit last season. I think we are even fitter this season, running for the team, running off the ball, running with the ball, so that elemental running and pressing is really important.

“That’s one of the things the manager has brought into the team and we are really buying into it.”

Ten Hag has been tasked with returning United back to the summit of the Premier League – a task that hasn't been accomplished since Sir Alex Ferguson left nine years ago.

The comments may come as a surprise to the German, who saw the youngster as one of his star pupils.

Rangnick said last season: "He is playing as though it is a dream come true, it is a joy and fun to watch him play, I wish a few other players would take him as an example and as a role model.

"Anthony, in all the games that he has played so far, just shows that he's playing with all the passion, all the fun and all the joy. He's just enjoying himself on the pitch and he's fully aware of his strengths, his assets, his weapons. He's always trying to play and show those weapons."
