England were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Hungary in 2022 World Cup qualifying at Wembley on Tuesday night in a match overshadowed by crowd trouble in the away end. Results elsewhere have cut the Three Lions’ advantage atop Group I to just three points. John Stones cancelled out Roland Sallai’s penalty in the first half but Gareth Southgate’s side could not find a winner under the arch despite two stand-out performances. The draw brings to an end a run of 21 successive home qualifying wins and Express Sport rates and slates the individual performances of the England players.

ENGLAND PLAYER RATINGS

JORDAN PICKFORD – 6

Guessed wrong for the penalty and had little else to do.

KYLE WALKER – 6

His pace is important if England are going to be this open.

JOHN STONES – 7

Delighted with his goal and strong presence at the back.

TYRONE MINGS – 6

Did well enough but this team needs a very solid base.

LUKE SHAW – 6

Silly penalty to concede blotted good attacking display.

MASON MOUNT – 6

Buzzed around keenly but did not get as involved as usual.

DECLAN RICE – 7

Kept England dominant in midfield even though isolated at times.

PHIL FODEN – 8

Always able to spot those angles and also busy out of possession.

JACK GREALISH – 8

Clearly enjoyed being allowed off the leash with mesmerising play.

HARRY KANE – 5

Two chances early on but then strangely anonymous again. A worry.

RAHEEM STERLING – 6

Header saved on the stroke of half-time but lacked his usual spark.
