Erik ten Hag has confirmed Antony has suffered a ‘serious’ injury after the Manchester United star was stretchered off during Thursday’s victory over Chelsea.

United booked their place in next season’s Champions League with a 4-1 victory over the Blues but an injury blow for the Brazil international cast a shadow over the win.

The 23-year-old went down and was left in agony following what appeared to be a clean challenge from Trevoh Chalobah.

United put the ball out of play for medical staff to attend to the winger.

Antony briefly tried to get back to his feet but was carried off almost in tears around the 25-minute mark with Marcus Rashford brought onto replace him.

Luke Shaw was also replaced at half-time with Tyrell Malacia coming onto replace him.

Asked about the duo at full-time, ten Hag told Sky Sports: ‘It’s difficult to say. Let’s wait 24 hours and then we will know more.’

In his post-match press conference, the United boss provided a more concerning update, telling reporters: ‘I don’t know. Everyone saw he came off.

‘I can tell you it is serious but we have to wait a minimum 24 hours and then we will probably know more about the status of his injury.’

United take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final on 3 June with Antony likely to be considered a major doubt for that trip to Wembley.

Ten Hag’s side conclude their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham on Sunday.

‘It’s the reaction of a player that’s going to spend some time out of the game,’ Neville said of the incident while on commentary duty for Sky Sports.

‘His hand was slamming the ground. I’d be amazed if he does carry on, but he has just stood up.

‘He [Erik ten Hag] will now be thinking he’ll have to rethink this game but he’s also got Sunday against Fulham at home to fill in that right-hand side, because Antony would be a shoe-in for that cup final side.’

Antony has made 43 appearances in his first season in the Premier League, scoring eight goals in all competitions and providing three assists.
