Erling Haaland gave savage reply when Martin Odegaard asked him to join Arsenal

Erling Haaland quite literally laughed off Martin Odegaard's attempts to get him to join Arsenal.

Haaland joined Premier League champions Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in a £51million deal earlier this summer. City won the race to sign the 22-year-old, who had been linked to host of Europe's elite before putting pen to paper at the Etihad.

Arsenal were never really in the race for the forward, but that didn't stop his Norway team-mate and Gunners captain Odegaard from having a right good go at convincing him to move to the Emirates. Odegaard revealed earlier this week that his attempts fell on deaf ears as Haaland chose City instead.

"He’s a great guy, great player and I think unfortunately for us he will be a great signing for Manchester City," Odegaard told talkSPORT when asked about Haaland. "For sure, he will score some goals. I wish him all the best except for when we play them. It will be fun to see him in England.

"When all the Arsenal fans were posting pictures of him and me I would send it to him. I tried, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough… he just laughed."

It is not the first time Odegaard has spoken about trying to get Haaland to join Arsenal. In April, he told Stadium Astro that the former Molde man needed to come to north London.

"He is a funny guy. A good friend of mine and a great player," he said. "We will see what he will do. I don’t know, but if he is coming to England, he needs to come to us (Arsenal) of course.

"No, I don’t know what he will do but he is a great guy. To be honest we haven’t talked too much about it. I know he has so many people trying to ask him and to tell him what to do and I don’t want to do that. So, we will have to wait and see."

Arsenal missed out on Haaland but did bag themselves Gabriel Jesus – the player he replaced at Manchester City. And Jesus showed his worth immediately on Friday night as the Gunners secured a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Although the Brazilian forward didn't get on the scoresheet himself, he showed more than a few glimpses of why the Gunners paid £45million for himself as Mikel Arteta's side wrapped up all three points at Selhurst Park.
