Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is out in the cold once again after having his contract terminated by Fenerbahce, according to reports.
The 33-year-old midfielder had not kicked a ball in anger for the Turkish giants since March 20 after he was frozen out following a row over his fitness. That happened under previous interim coach Ismail Kartal, but Ozil wasn't welcomed back into the fold by Jorge Jesus either and subsequently sat out the rest of the season.
Despite scoring eight goals in 22 league games last term, it seems there was no way back for Ozil in Istanbul, and he has been deemed surplus to requirements and released, claim NTV Spor.

Ozil was reportedly preparing to end his career at Fenerbahce, but that is no longer possible. Aged just 33, the former Real Madrid star still has plenty left to give and could now join Istanbul Basaksehir or Medipol Basaksehir.
But if he does not find a new club that is suitable, he could hang up his boots once and for all. His agent Dr Erkut Sogut told the Daily Telegraph about the midfielder's retirement plans, saying: "He will go more into esports, play himself and maybe become an esports athlete.

"He’s really good, to be honest, at Fortnite and I think one day I wouldn’t be surprised if he is competing. He owns a team – M10 Esports – and he has players. He has a gaming house in Germany. He has football, like Fifa, and Fortnite."
Sogut had earlier insisted that Ozil would not leave the club. "'He’s more mature now, more relaxed in that sense," he told the Daily Mail. "He has two more years on his contract, he wants to stay at Fenerbahce, he doesn’t want to go anywhere."
But less than 18 months after swapping north London for Turkey, it seems Ozil is on the lookout for a new club once again.
