Ex-Chelsea and Spurs star Cudicini sued single mum for £300k after bike crash

Former Chelsea and Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini once reportedly sued a single mother for £300,000 following a motorbike accident.

The Italian shot-stopper broke his wrist and pelvis after his BMW motorbike collided with Jennifer Bernard’s £500 Ford Fiesta in Walthamstow, North-East London, back in November 2009.

Cudicini was playing for north London side Spurs at the time but eventually recovered and went on to end his 22-year career at LA Galaxy.

But the 48-year-old decided in 2013, while still active, to file a lawsuit against mother-of-three Miss Bernard, claiming the crash and his subsequent injuries were the result of “negligence” on her part.

According to The Daily Mail, Cudicini claimed the crash left him £8.8million out of pocket and sued both the defendant and her insurers for £300,000.

His claim was based on expenses, loss of earnings and future loss of wages, including a £8,235 chauffeur bill for his time out injured and £800 for the money he paid his mother to take care of him for a month.

The two-time FA Cup winner’s medical bills also included a £1,550 chiropractor at a Harley Street clinic.

Meanwhile, his future loss of wages claim was based on the crash apparently ending his hopes of becoming Tottenham’s first choice keeper.

He had been competing with Heurelho Gomes for the role at the time but fell down the pecking order on his return from injury, due to the club signing Brad Friedel as cover.

Cudicini, who reportedly earned £40,000-per-week at Spurs, claimed the injury affected his role and therefore his negotiations for a new and potentially improved contract.

Miss Bernard, an Arsenal fan earning £800-a-month at ASDA, had been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing following a police investigation after the crash.

Her Ford was written off from the crash, in which her five-year-old daughter Sophia was also with her and was reportedly showered with glass.
