Fabrice Muamba sends tweet to Christian Eriksen after Denmark pitch collapse

Former Bolton Wanderers star Fabrice Muamba has sent a message of support to Christian Eriksen after the midfielder collapsed during Denmark’s opening match of Euro 2020 against Finland.

Eriksen started the match for the Danes but went down off the ball with paramedics rushing onto the pitch to provide assistance.

English referee Anthony Taylor called the game to a halt as TV pictures showed former Tottenham star Eriksen receiving CPR.

Denmark players and fans inside the Copenhagen Arena could be seen in tears as resuscitation attempts continued for several minutes.

As the TV cameras kept rolling, Eriksen’s team-mates formed a human shield around him to give the 29-year-old some privacy.

Horrified viewers on Twitter were quick to tweet their support for Eriksen, with former Bolton star Muamba sending a poignant message.

He tweeted: “Please God.”

Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch while playing for Bolton against Tottenham in the FA Cup in 2012.

After receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch, Muamba was transferred to the specialist coronary care unit at the London Chest Hospital.

Muamba’s heart stopped for 78 minutes during the ordeal but his life was saved thanks to the quick thinking of the Spurs. and Bolton medical teams and consultant cardiologist Andrew Deaner, who had been watching as a fan.

BBC pundit Micah Richards also lent his support to Eriksen.

He said: “One thing you have to have, you have to have hope.

"You’ve seen it with Fabrice Muamba, he pulled through.

"That’s all you can do. We don’t know the news, you can’t make assumptions and all we can do is pray.”

At around 6:30pm it was confirmed that Eriksen was awake and in a stable conditions and being transferred to a local hospital.
