Facundo Pellistri could be handed an immediate role in Man Utd's first team following a chat between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and former Red Devil Diego Forlan.
The 18-year-old completed a deadline day move to Old Trafford from Uruguayan side Penarol, where he has been working under Forlan's management.
Pellistri was initially expected to join United's youth ranks to help further his development, but according to The Independent , Solskjaer is now considering drafting him straight into the senior set-up.
United have reportedly been keeping tabs on Pellistri for more than three years, but were finally persuaded to shell out £9million for his services.
United's failure to land Jadon Sancho has opened up a potential opportunity for Pellistri or fellow new boy Amad Traore (also 18) to try and force their way into Solskjaer's plans.
At present, Mason Greenwood and Daniel James are United's two main options on the right flank, but the former is considered better through the middle, while Solskjaer appears to have gone cold on the latter.
Solskjaer is a big admirer of Pellistri, though his comments suggest this signing is more for the club's future than the present.
He said the youngster was "a real talent for the long term" when the deal was confirmed on Monday.
But Pellistri appears to have been offered some assurances of working closely with Solskjaer and United's top stars, judging by his reaction to his move.

"To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true," Pellistri said. "I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me.
"To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.
“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity and I am ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England.”
