Fan loses £50 bet at 1/1000 on no card in first minute of Chelsea vs Liverpool

A fan lost an £50 bet as a result of Sadio Mane’s first minute yellow card during Chelsea and Liverpool’s Premier League clash on Sunday.

Liverpool forward Mane was shown the fastest booking in Premier League history for catching defender Cesar Azpilicueta with a nasty elbow in a hectic start at Stamford Bridge.

On another day, the Senegalese star could have been sent off for his actions but referee Anthony Taylor decided against any further punishment following a VAR check.

But while the 29-year-old was lucky to get away with just a yellow, there was an extremely unlucky punter who stunningly lost out because of the booking.

Football fan Jack Lebeau placed a bet worth £50 at 1/1000 odds on there not being a card in the first minute of the game.

He was set to make 5p in profit in what was seemingly the surest way of making some marginal gains.

But it wasn’t to be as Lebeau missed out on the 5p along with losing his £50 stake due to Mane’s aggressive foul.

He wrote on Twitter: "Cheers Mane. Just my luck that a 1/1000 bet would lose in 4 seconds."

Mane went on to open the scoring in the 9th minute before Mohamed Salah made it 2-0 before half-time.

Chelsea did manage to scrape a 2-2 draw after an emphatic comeback but many were left scratching their heads at how Mane remained on the pitch, including Azpilicueta.

The Blues defender said after the match: "It’s a clear red, I don’t mind if it’s five seconds into the game and the first actions, it’s a clear red.

"He doesn’t want to challenge, he doesn’t want to see the ball, he just wants to hit with the elbow. Honestly I don’t understand it.

"The other day we had two penalties where VAR didn’t come, today the first action is a clear red card.

“Of course, we are getting these decisions against us that of course could change the way of the game."
