Martin Tyler's cringy commentary moment had fans contemplating muting the TV after his quip about Ant and Dec on Sunday.

The Saturday Night Takeaway stars were in attendance at St James Park for the first match under the new ownership.

Over the international break, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund purchased Newcastle United from Mike Ashley, who was hugely unpopular at the club.

It has taken the Magpies into the stratosphere, making them the richest club in the world with PIF headed by Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is worth around £320billion.

He was not in attendance, though, with new chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Amanda Staveley watched on.

As the Sky Sports cameras turned to Newcastle's new board members, sitting in front of them was another duo more used to the spotlight.

Ant and Dec, huge Toon fans, were a row ahead watching and could be spotted taking selfies and celebrating as the Magpies struck first against Tottenham.

Commentating on the match was Tyler, who could not help let loose one of his infamous quips.

"I'm a celebrity, get me into here," he said as the rest of the country melted through their sofas with second-hand embarrassment.

Fans were not impressed with the Sky Sports stalwart, with one saying: "Martin Tyler with another shocker “I’m a celebrity get me into here” as it pans onto ant and dec."

Another wrote: "'I’m a celebrity get me into here' from Martin Tyler there has somehow managed to make this hangover worse."

While this fan said: "No way Martin Tyler has just dropped 'I’m a celebrity get me into here'."

A fourth tweeted: "'I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Into Here’ Someone take the mic away from Martin Tyler."

And this supporter said: "Martin Tyler – I’m a celebrity get me into here – cringe."

Newcastle went on to lose against Tottenham despite Callum Wilson scoring after two minutes with Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane getting on the scoresheet.

Eric Dier scored a late own goal to give the home fans some hope but it finished 3-2.
