Fans go mad as Alessia Russo scores outrageous backheel in England Lionesses win

England fans have gone wild after Alessia Russo’s sensational backheel goal in the Euros semi-final.

The Lionesses are now on the brink of Euros glory after destroying Sweden with an emphatic 4-0 win at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening. Beth Mead opened the scoring before Lucy Bronze, Russo and Fran Kirby capped off a historic England performance and booked their place in the final.

Russo’s sublime backheel will undoubtedly go down as the most iconic of the lot. It came 68 minutes in as England dismantled the Swedes with some patient build-up play before the midfielder arrived at the opposition’s six-yard box.

The Manchester United star was unable to finish a squared pass on her first attempt, but managed to recoup the ball and caught both the goalkeeper and millions at home by surprise with the audacious. And she was rewarded as the ball travelled through Hedvig Lindahl’s legs before the shot-stopper could react.

The goal sent England fans wild on social media as they voiced their awe at the effort and dared to dream of glory again following the heart-breaking Euro 2020 final last summer.

Germany and France will battle it out on Wednesday night for the chance to face England in the final at Wembley. But they will surely be dreading the fixture after witnessing the monumental performance the Lionesses delivered when it truly mattered.
